Mahabodhi Temple

?php the_title(); ?

The Mahabodhi Temple Complex, located in Bodh Gaya, Bihar, encompasses a rich history spanning over two millennia. This UNESCO World Heritage Site comprises shrines, monuments, and sculptures that hold immense historical and spiritual significance. Key elements within the complex include the iconic Bodhi Tree, the Vajrasana (Diamond Throne), and the Mahabodhi Temple itself. Emperor Asoka played a pivotal role in the temple’s history during the 3rd century BC. The Mahabodhi Temple stands as a witness to the Buddha’s journey. He engaged in deep meditation under the Bodhi tree and attained enlightenment, touching the earth to summon the Earth Goddess as a witness to his achievement. It plays an important role for global pilgrims, who engage in prayers, ceremonies, and meditation. There are efforts to conserve and restore the temple complex by the Archaeological Survey of India.
